Last week we reported on the claims from a John Boyega’s agent, Femi Oguns, claiming the trailer for Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker would be released that evening during Monday Night Football.
MNF came and went, and it turned out Femi Oguns clearly hasn’t got his job based on talent and inside info.
Now, however, we have confirmation that it will be this week. Definitely. 100%. Sure thing. Honest!
The trailer will be released and early ticket sales will commence following the halftime of ESPN’s game between the New England Patriots and New York Jets.
The game starts at 8:15PM ET so expect the trailer online shortly after 9pm US-ET. The last Star Wars trailers have been released onto the internet within minutes of the unveiling.
J.J. Abrams has been speaking to EW about the pressure of the landing:
“This is about bringing this thing to a close in a way that is emotional and meaningful and also satisfying in terms of actually answering (as many) questions as possible. So if years from now, someone’s watching these movies, all nine of them, they’re watching a story that is as cohesive as possible.
While there were many things that were planned for and discussed – George Lucas himself said when he created this he saw it as three, three-act plays – that doesn’t mean there isn’t discovery, that doesn’t mean there aren’t things that come up that make you realize, ‘Oh, here’s an opportunity.
It also doesn’t mean that there’s a list of payoffs that we have to do because of setups. But we also were very much aware this is the end of the trilogy and it needs to satisfy. We went into this thing knowing it has to be an ending. We’re not screwing around.”
The film has been reported at just over two-and-a-half hours long and opens globally on December 20th.
