Shazam! Fury Of The Gods has a new trailer to insert into your eyeballs. Directed by David F. Sandberg of Annabelle: Creation fame and this (apparently) is a highly-anticipated sequel to 2019’s Shazam!
The considerable lack of marketing and PR for this movie would suggest to me that WB already know they are on a loser with this one, but unlike Batgirl, are having to forge ahead regardless.
Zachary Levi and Asher Angel return as the adult and teenage versions of the titular superhero. Joining them are most of the first film’s main cast, including Jack Dylan Grazer and Adam Brody as Freddy, Faithe Herman and Meagan Good as Darla, Ian Chen and Ross Butler as Eugene, Grace Fulton as Mary, Jovan Armand and D.J. Cotrona as Pedro, Marta Milans, and Cooper Andrews.
As the new trailer underlines, Shazam! Fury of the Gods takes place a few years after the first movie. Billy is still struggling to balance his regular life with his superhero duties, even more since he must act as the responsible leader of his super-family.
We can see a ton of monsters and dragons, and it shows Billy and his family confront the villainous and immensely powerful daughters of Atlas – Hespera and Kalypso – who are portrayed by Oscar winner Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu.
This doesn’t look like my cup of tea to be honest. There seems to be far too much fun and shiny, shiny. Literally, every scene looks like it was filmed in front of a green screen, the CGI looks like something from 2009, and of course, the customary rap “music” cliché. This film looks like Harry Potter And The Superheroes.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods will hit theaters on 17th March. Check out the new trailer below.
