Secret projects abound in Hollywood right now. Are we returning to a golden age when studios played their cards very close to their chests, but plucky, non-affiliated and shill free  independent websites ferreted away to bring you exciting, dare we say cool, news? We hope so! One project that has been shrouded in secrecy is the psychological thriller Apartment 7A for the Paramount Players label. Is this a secret Rosemary’s Baby adaption?

Rosemary's-Baby

It was known the project was being directed by Natalie Erika James (Relic) and starred Julia Garner alongside Dianne Wiest and Kevin McNally.

Now, Bloody Disgusting have cracked the code. The IMDb listing for the project lists Amy Leeson as credited as Rosemary Woodhouse, which was Mia Farrow’s character in the 1968 movie. McNally is credited as Roman Castavet who, anyone who has seen the movie will know, is important.

The evidence stacks up. Paramount owns the rights to the property. John Krasinski is attached as a producer and he was signed up to a potential remake fifteen years ago. Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes are involved and they have been on a horror remake roll with cover versions of Texas Chainsaw Massacre and A Nightmare on Elm Street, among others, pouring forth.

This would be the third time that Ira Levin’s 1967 novel has been adapted. We won’t mention the Jason Isaacs and Zoe Saldana version from NBC. However we all know the 1968 Roman Polanski version of Rosemary’s Baby.

Rosemary's Baby

The movie starred Mia Farrow, John Cassavetes, Ruth Gordon, Sidney Blackmer, Maurice Evans, Ralph Bellamy, Patsy Kelly, Angela Dorian, Clay Tanner, and Charles Grodin.

The story follows a young, pregnant wife in Manhattan who comes to suspect that her elderly neighbors are members of a Satanic cult, and are grooming her in order to use her baby for their rituals.

It made big money and received multiple Golden Globe Award nominations and two Academy Award nominations. Ruth Gordon won both the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress as well as the Golden Globe in the same category.

So is Rosemary’s Baby / Apartment 7A a sequel? Prequel? Sidequel? Remake? We have absolutely no idea. Watch this space.
