A new sci-fi thriller titled Infinite that’ll be starring Mark Wahlberg will be exclusively debuted on Paramount Plus. The movie is also being directed by Antoine Fuqua, who directed Training Day, Southpaw and the Equalizer movies.

The decision to release the movie on Paramount Plus came during an announcement by ViacomCBS. CEO Bob Bakish said during an earnings call on Thursday. Paramount Plus is looking to bolster their original content lineup, as they face tough competition in the streaming service line, with such competition as Netflix, Disney Plus and HBO Max.

The company has shown they take making movies on their platform seriously. In February ViacomCBS announced that movies such as A Quiet Place II and Mission Impossible 7 would premiere on Paramount Plus within 45 days of their theatrical releases.

Furthermore, they’ve announced that movies that were planned for theatrical releases previously, such as a Paranormal Activity sequel and a prequel to Pet Sematary will instead be heading to Paramount Plus.

With that all said, the movie Infinite is the biggest leap for the service as of now. It’s a big-budget get with top tier talent that will now instead release on Paramount Plus, skipping releasing it in theaters.

It seems that the stakes are getting high in the streaming service competition. You have Disney Plus debuting Pixar’s Soul and Marvels Black Widow. Not to mention Warner Bros. putting all their theatrical movies on HBO Max on the same day as theater releases, such as Godzilla VS Kong and Dune.

Bakish told investors Paramount Plus will be kicking off a “Mountain of Movies” marketing campaign. It will highlight the thousands of movies they’re bringing to the streaming service. Among that, they’ll be bringing a thousand movies in early June and followed by more through July. This will bring the service to over 2,500 titles.

Bakish spoke of the future plans for Paramount Plus,

“All of this is a preview to a substantial ramping up of original movies next year, when we expect to begin averaging an original movie a week in 2022,”

So it seems that Infinite is just the tip. There’s no release date yet for the movie.
