Amazon Prime Video has finally unveiled the trailer for Samaritan, starring Hollywood royalty Sylvester Stallone.
The film is set in Granite City, a megalopolis filled with skyscrapers, cars, and crime. Working as a garbageman Joe Smith (Stallone) spends his days retrieving once precious objects from the trash bins and giving them a new life, a hobby that helps him pass the time.
One fateful day, Smith rescues Sam Cleary (Javon Walton) from bullies and kind of reveals himself to be more than just a ripped as fuck 76-year-old bin man. This leads Sam on a personal quest to prove his theory that Joe Smith is the legendary superhero called Samaritan.
The problem is, 25 years ago Samaritan was reported dead after a fiery warehouse battle with his rival, Nemesis. Most believe Samaritan perished in the fire, but some, like Sam, have hope that he is still alive. With crime on the rise and the city on the brink of chaos, Sam makes it his mission to coax his neighbour out of hiding to save the city from ruin.
Writer Bragi F. Schut originally wrote this as a screenplay but after finding little success, he turned it into a graphic novel. It’s finally headed to screen with Overlord‘s Julius Avery directing.
This looks like he could be a good bit of fun and Sly very rarely disappoints so I’ll be tuning in.
Samaritan is released on 26th August.
