Mark Rylance and Simon Pegg are signed on to join The Undeclared War, a joint production between Peacock and the UK’s Channel 4. It is a cyber warfare thriller and it will be produced by Playground Entertainment.
Heavyweight writer and director Peter Kosminky (Wolf Hall) will take on those duties again. The series will be six parts long and co-star Adrian Lester, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, and Alex Jennings.
It will be set in the near future of 2024 as a UK General Election looms with the possibility of the UK electing its first black Conservative Prime Minister (Lester) as a team of GCHQ operatives and analysts at the heart of the UK’s intelligence services attempt to prevent a cyber-attack on the country’s electoral system.
Pegg will play the GCHQ operational chief with Rylance as an ex-analytical master brought back from retirement to help. Richardson-Sellers is an American cyber-analyst on loan from the NSA and Jennings will play the overall Head of GCHQ.
Will Undeclared War hit the heights of Bird Of Prey, the excellent 1982 BBC series starring Richard Griffiths that was both prescient and decades ahead of its time?
