Universal’s Dark Universe may be dead, but Universal’s Dark Small Suburban Development is continuing to move forward. Now comes news that Ryan Gosling is eyeing up a new take on the Lon Chaney Jr’s 1941 werewolf tale, The Wolfman.

Usual suspects Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo have written the script apparently around Gosling. Moving away from the Benicia Del Toro, Emily Blunt and Anthony Hopkins remake from 2010  will apparently take place in the current world.

Gosling‘s character is rumored to be an anchorman who gets infected with the curse of the werewolf. The tone is said to be a dark satire of media akin to Network and Nightcrawler. No director is currently attached. With the success of The Invisible Man earlier this year it’s clear Universal have put their faith in the Blum operation to move things forward.
