News came out a while ago, that Patty Jenkins will be directing Star Wars: Rogue Squadron and now they’ve found a writer, Matthew Robinson.

Not much is known about the movie right now, apart from it’s a prequel following the exploits of the Rebel Alliance starfighter squadron from Star Wars.

Robinson has written things like The Invention of Lying, Monster Trucks, Dora and the Lost City of Gold and, most recently, Love and Monsters. Personally, I don’t think that’s the best CV, The Invention of Lying was another excuse for Ricky Gervais to have a go at religion. Monster Trucks was a very silly premise of a movie, It was about aliens that you could drive like a truck. I haven’t seen Dora, but Love and Monsters wasn’t too bad, a little predictable, but fun.

He’s also writing at the moment, Live Die Repeat and Repeat, the sequel to Edge of Tomorrow and a new version of Little Shop of Horrors.

The biggest concern is still Patty Jenkins. After the mess that was Wonder Woman 1984, it doesn’t inspire any confidence that she’s working on Rogue Squadron. She had ‘full creative control’ over WW84 and it was pretty much panned by critics and fans. Even with the bad reviews, the suits at Warner Brothers saw it made a bit of money and fast-tracked WW3.

We did report, back in Jan this year, that Jenkins has been ‘managed out’ of Rogue Squadron, but it seems that, for whatever reason, she is now back and is directing the movie…did she agree to have her ‘creative control’ taken away?

Rogue Squadron, the N64 game is considered one of the best of all the Star Wars games, simple design and great game play.

Will the movie be the same thing?

Rogue Squadron, the movie, is due out in Dec 2023.
