Rocky Balboa gained a new lease of life through the Creed movies and even garnered Sylvester Stallone an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. A third Creed is coming, but now the star, writer, and director Stallone has taken to Instagram and revealed that he is working on something else in the Rocky universe.

Stallone teased the start of a handwritten story treatment for a Rocky prequel. He is aiming for a 10-episode run on a major streaming service to start, with the potential for multiple seasons. Stallone revealed:

“I started out this morning by writing a treatment for a Rocky prequel For streaming. Ideally, 10 episodes for a few seasons to really get to the heart of the Characters in there younger years – here is a small portion of how my creative writing Process starts… hope it happens – And then I needed to clear my head so I went fishing… talk about extremes! Keep punching my friends.”

Stallone explained the origin story would take fans back to the 1960s and “the most transformative generation in modern history,” citing the events of the moon landing, the civil rights movement, the assassinations of U.S. President John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr., and the Cold War, among many other milestones.

Stallone said –

“Needless to say the 60s was a dynamic time,”

“Yet among all this Social Seismic Activity, we drop in on the rather plain life of 17-year-old Robert ‘Rocky’ Balboa. When we first met Rocky in 1976, he was a very lost soul… We now see this young man struggling like all young people trying to find their place.”

This project has been gestating for many years. Two years ago Stallone tried to get it off the ground but producer Irwin Winkler disagreed with TV being home for anything Rocky related. Winkler recently had the experience of Netflix via an Executive Producer stint on The Irishman so this may have won him round.
