Robert Rodriguez and Troublemaker Studios have signed a deal with HBO and HBO Max.

It is a first look deal, Rodríguez will bring projects to HBO Max and HBO for potential development as original series. He will also get to propose new stories based on existing Warner IP.

Racer Rodriguez, Robert’s son, will serve as the lead development executive for Troublemaker Studios. Productions could also take place at the Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas. Robert Rodriguez said:

“It’s intriguing to be able to tap into the wealth of iconic IP available across the WarnerMedia portfolio and explore new stories to tell, I’m looking forward to a meaningful collaboration with the high caliber creative talent at HBO and HBO Max who have proven they’re willing to take risks, challenge norms and tell inclusive stories while producing a wide breadth of quality content.”

At the moment, Robert is an executive producer for The Mandolorian spin-off The Book Of Boba Fett for Disney+. He’s also known for things like El Mariachi, From Dusk Till Dawn, the Spy Kids series, Once Upon a Time in Mexico and Alita : Battle Angel.

Sarah Aubrey, head of original content at HBO Max said:

“Robert Rodríguez and the team at Troublemaker Studios have created some of the most compelling projects in recent memory, pushing the boundaries of genre storytelling with humor and one-of-a-kind visuals.”

I’ve been a fan of Robert Rodriguez for a while, I love his story about him staying in a medical research place to pay for El Mariachi, which he then sold and then went on to make Desperado. Working with HBO might be a perfect partnership.
