Oh Hollywood. There you have a franchise that has made good returns but very much fallen from its peak. No matter what you try, you just can’t bring back to old magic.
Any normal industry, one that wasn’t staffed almost entirely by clowns, would look at a tired, old product that wasn’t selling anymore and think it was time for a rest.
Hollywood isn’t like that though. Because they exist almost uniquely as a creative industry which is scared of creativity. As a result they keep going back to the well again and again, law of diminishing returns be dammed. They will try and try again no matter how many financial disasters and critical drubbings they face. Then, when even that no longer works… reboot! If you really want to go full Hollywood, reboot with a twist!
So, inevitably, we come to the news that there is more Pirates Of The Caribbean coming. Two helpings. One is a female-centric reboot.
So predictable. So Hollywood. This is separate from the already announced reboot currently in development with original writer Ted Elliott and Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin.
Even bigger news, Margot Robbie is attached to star and Bumblebee and Birds Of Prey writer Christina Hodson will pen the script.
This will be:
“…a wholly original story with new characters under the Pirates moniker.”
Jerry Bruckheimer is attached to produce both films. Story details are currently under wraps.
