Not only was UFC 285 the triumphant return of Jon “Bones” Jones but we also got to see Jake Gyllenhaal filming scenes for the up-and-coming Road House remake for Amazon.
Gyllenhaal was looking almost as ripped and shredded as me, as he took part in what is now called the ceremonial weigh-in the day before the event, with former UFC fighter Jay Heiron, Dana White, and the crowd also playing their part.

White was later asked to comment on Gyllenhaal’s impressive physique at the presser and jokingly hinted that it might not have all been down to hard work and dedication. To be honest, if Gyllenhaal has had help from “special juice” then where can I buy some of that liquid witchcraft?!
“I don’t think he’s been USADA tested.”

Walking The Walk
Later the next evening, Gyllenhaal was filmed doing his ring walk to the Octogan and going through all the routine checks by the refs before stepping into the cage. Hats off to the crew of the new Road House and Gyllenhaal, because neither seems to be leaving any stone unturned to capture the authenticity.

Talking The Talk
Finally, as Bruce Buffer does the introduction to the “fight”, the action takes off as we get to see Gyllenhaal and his opponent, Jay Heiron, get down to business. You can see after Gyllenhaal’s shit-talking at the weigh-in, that his character backs it up as he finishes the fight with a glorious flying knee.
In the remake, Gyllenhaal stars as a former UFC fighter. He takes a job as a bouncer at a rough-and-tumble roadhouse in the Florida Keys. However, he soon discovers that everything is not as it seems in this tropical paradise.
Billy Magnussen, Daniela Melchior, Lukas Gage, Hannah Love Lanier, and Gbemisola Ikumelo co-star along with UFC champion Conor McGregor. Joel Silver, who produced the original, returns.
No official release date has been confirmed yet, but I’m a big MMA fan, and looking at these clips and the dedication that’s on display to make this look authentic, I’ll be parting with my hard-earned cash to watch it.
