Yesterday, Eric July released the first comic book in the Rippaverse, his independent comic book line. The first issue of the initial comic release, titled Isom is now available to order with 3 different covers.

It seems the comic book is doing gangbusters, as within the first hour the Campaign hit $400k. The original goal was only $100k. As of this posting, the campaign is just over $900k, with 74 days left to buy the comic book.

Ethan Van Sciver is a comic book industry pro (and has his own indie comic, Cyberfrog). He’s claiming they’ll easily reach $3 million. This, for me personally, is great to hear. Not because I have a stake in this at all, but because I want competition for Marvel and DC. By the looks of this, it seems the Rippaverse will be just that.

This shows that the American comic book industry exists beyond the big two companies. While both of them seem to be in a race to rock bottom, it leaves options open for more independent comic books to succeed.

Checkout the trailer for Isom:

The synopsis:

Avery Silman is a common rancher, but that wasn’t always the case. After obtaining some unique abilities, Avery spent a brief stint being a hero under the moniker Isom in the city of Florepark, Texas. Realizing that it wasn’t for him, he walked away from this life. But after responding to a call from his sister, some violent altercations ensue and has Avery reconsidering his approach. What happened? Grab Isom #1 to find out!

Isom is written by Eric July and the art was done by Cliff Richards (pencil and ink), Gabe Eltaeb (colors) and lettering by Eric Weathers. If you’re interested, you can go to the Rippaverse website and checkout the different deals. There’s options for all three comic books and other things like shirts and even signed comics.

Isom #1 will start shipping out in August and anywhere in the world can order, no limits on shipping, but you may end up paying more in shipping than anything else.
