They only released the teaser a week ago, but following their big presentation at Comic Con earlier today / yesterday, depending on where you are with time zones, they have released the full affair – a three minute trailer – for The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power.

With five seasons in the plan and a cost of over $1 billion, this is a big deal for Amazon. Showrunners Patrick McKay and JD Payne will be feeling the Bezos pressure.

Set in Middle Earth’s Second Age, thousands of years before the events of The Lord of the Rings, The Rings Of Power will begin with the wicked god Morgoth having been defeated and his apprentice, Sauron, has vanished. Galadriel is hunting down the last remnants of their forces and allies, who also killed her brother.

The cast includes Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Maxim Baldry, Nazanin Boniadi, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Charles Edwards, Trystan Gravelle, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Lloyd Owen, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, Leon Wadham, Benjamin Walker, Daniel Weyman, and Sara Zwangobani.

The Rings Of Power is primarily based on the appendices of The Lord of the Rings, which include discussion of the Second Age, and it features a large cast from around the world. For legal reasons it is not a direct continuation of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit film trilogies, but the production intended to evoke the films with similar production design and younger versions of characters who appear in them.

J.A. Bayona (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) directs the first two episodes of the series. It is getting very close now, with a September 2nd release date fast approaching.
