Vin Diesel exited the xXx franchise and The Fast And The Furious thinking he was going on to bigger and better things. Then The Chronicles Of Riddick bombed critically and commercially and showed him he wasn’t quite as big a star as he thought he was, he went crawling back to those franchises. The kind of people who masturbate over performance car magazines but don’t understand physics propelled the Furious franchise to ludicrous heights, so a return to Riddick seemed distant. Now, with Furious nearing the finish line, Riddick 4 could be on the way.
Diesel posted a photo of himself from the third film and included the caption:
“Incredible meeting today, thanks team you know who you are… Let’s just say Furia may be closer than you think. #Riddick”.
Diesel has previously spoken about how he has been working with writer/director David Twohy on a sequel for years. After The Chronicles Of Riddick they struggled to raise the finance for the third movie to feature the Pitch Black anti-hero. Riddick cost $38 million and after they finally raised the money it went on to gross $98.3 million at the box-office then did good business on home rental.
The script was completed in June for Riddick 4, and they were looking at an Australia location shoot. Diesel has to manage Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 and Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots, plus Fast 10 before he can spin this up.
