Nicholas Cage as Dracula. OK, so you have piqued our interest. Well, now you get to see him in all his glory as the trailer for Renfield is now online.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from the trailer, but I didn’t think it would be that! I’m guessing they had a tone in mind, but again, I didn’t think it would be that.
Renfield is giving the Dracula story an overhaul by Robert Kirkman, known for The Walking Dead, from a screenplay by Ryan Ridley, known for Ricky & Morty.
In the original story by Bram Stoker, Renfield was an inmate in a lunatic asylum who everyone thought was crazy, but was actually working for the vampire Dracula.
In this new version, it seems that Renfield has been working for the bloodsucker for many many years and now he:
“…has grown sick and tired of his centuries as Dracula’s lackey. The henchman finds a new lease on life and maybe even redemption when he falls for feisty, perennially angry traffic cop Rebecca Quincy.”
On the one hand, we have Nick Cage, on the other hand, we have Awkwafina, who’s about as funny as suffering from diarrhoea on a bicycle.
Universal is developing several monster projects and they seem excited that Renfield is the first of them. According to Deadline, the story is a:
“…mix of humor and action [that] was something the studio was looking for, because so many of the other properties have more of a horror element to them.”
Renfield is out in the cinema on 14th April.
