Rebel Moon, Zack Snyder’s upcoming two-part epic sci-fi adventure, is building a cast. An impressive cast.
Dread Pirate Roberts himself, Cary Elwes, has joined the cast as the king of the Galactic Empire. He will be joined by Corey Stoll (Billions), Michiel Huisman (The Flight Attendant), and Alfonso Herrera (Ozark).
This is on top of Rupert Friend, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, and Stuart Martin who are already signed on to star in the project.
Rebel Moon will tell of a peaceful colony on the galaxy’s edge that becomes threatened by a tyrannical regent. The desperate colonists dispatch a young woman (Sofia Boutella) with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them make a stand.
Battle Beyond The Stars redux? That movie was itself a space-based Magnificent Seven which was, of course, a remake of The Seven Samurai. Fourth time is a charm?
The shoot is over six-months, so whatever Snyder is planning undoubtedly has some scale. Two parts? Netflix’s money? This cast? Is Snyder about to create something truly epic? Or Army Of The Dead level dross? Snyder’s only consistency is his inconsistency.
Snyder co-wrote the script with Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad.
Snyder was formerly working on Horse Latitudes, formerly known as The Last Photograph, a drama about a war photographer in South America. He was also working on an adaptation of the 1943 novel The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, but confirmed he had abandoned it in 2021 due to political reasons. He has also expressed an interest in making a film, in the style of 300, about George Washington.
