Well, it was First Contact Day yesterday. April 5th. First Contact Day celebrates the warp 1 flight of the Zephram Cochrane’s Phoenix and the first open contact between Humans and Vulcans, as shown in Star Trek: First Contact.
Unfortunately for Star Trek fandom, this occurs in canon on April 5th, 2063, launching from Bozeman, Montana. Quite why it needs to be celebrated in 2021 is not clear. However, CBS wanted to flog the day for all it is worth. So they chose to share some news with us all.
Q is to return to Star Trek. The official Star Trek account tweeted a teaser that points to John DeLancie coming back as the omnipotent superbeing Q, most famous for putting all of humanity on trial and introducing us to The Borg in Star Trek: The Next Generation. He will come face to face once again with Jean-Luc Picard.

The last time DeLancie appeared in live-action form was in an episode of Star Trek: Voyager. Q is a fan favorite but I personally found him tiresome and associate him with lame comedy and mariachi bands on the bridge of the Enterprise D.
Alongside Stewart and John de Lancie, Season 2 will see the return of Alison Pill, Isa Briones, Evan Evagora, Michelle Hurd, Santiago Cabrera, Jeri Ryan, Orla Brady and… interestingly… Brent Spiner.
Star Trek: Picard Season 2 will debut in 2022 on the Paramount+ service. We can only hope that it is better than Season 1 which started with promise and then fell spectacularly flat on its face by the second or third episode.
