No Time to Die is heading for BluRay in time for Christmas, and three months after its release people are still talking about that ending! They are also talking about where the franchise goes next, now that Daniel Craig has retired from the role and the whole Bond circus will restart once again with a new man in the tuxedo for 7th time. Bond producer Barbara Broccoli has talked about what could be next for James Bond.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter she completely shut down any idea that 007 may have a female incarnation:

“I think it will be a man because I don’t think a woman should play James Bond. I believe in making characters for women and not just having women play men’s roles

I don’t think there are enough great roles for women, and it’s very important to me that we make movies for women about women.”

She said this before but it didn’t stop the internet from declaring that Lashana Lynch was the new James Bond. She also went on to say nationality is important but ethnicity is not:

“He should be British, so British can be any [ethnicity or race].”

In the past, he has been played by an Australian pretending to be British (Lazenby) and by an Irishman (Brosnan). Any proud Irishman will tell you that Irish is most definitely not British. Broccoli also spoke directors:

“We love Cary [Fukunaga]. He’s done an exceptional job. I don’t have any idea whether he’d do another one. I think he did this because he wanted a challenge, and he sure pulled it off. But I’m not sure if he’d do another one. We’d love to work with him again.”

There has also been lots of speculation online that Amazon “owns Bond” (they don’t) and that this means we can expect spin-offs and TV shows set in the Bond universe on Amazon Prime Video. Not happening, says Broccoli:

“Sure, there are other main characters like M and Q and all that, but we haven’t really wanted to make a Bond film without Bond. It would be like making Hamlet without Hamlet.”

Two attempted spin-offs in the past, including one about Halle Berry’s character of Jinx from Die Another Day, were shelved at the script stage.
