Florida Sheriff Seeks Tips on Baskin’s Missing Husband

Following the release of Netflix series Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness, a Florida sheriff is to ask for new leads in the 1997 disappearance of Jack Donald “Don” Lewis.

Tiger King is about Joe Exotic’s antics and his rivalry with Carol Baskin, but a 23-year-old Tampa-based cold case involving current Big Cat Rescue CEO Baskin’s missing husband, Don Lewis, is also a big part of the show.

Now, Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister is hoping social media can help solve this mystery –

Earlier this month, Tiger King directors Rebecca Chaiklin and Eric Goode spoke with Esquire about the difficulties they faced when investigating Don’s disappearance. Chaiklin said –

“We’ve done so many things that we were trying to follow up on, and there’s just such a lack of evidence that it’s really difficult to pursue it further.”

Since Lewis’ disappearance, Baskin (then Carol Lewis) has remarried and taken over as CEO of Big Cat Rescue. She took to her blog after the airing of the episode to express her disappointment, and to shoot down the theory that her then-husband’s body was put into a meat grinder and fed to his tigers. Baskin said –

“The meat grinder shown in the video was enormous. Our meat grinder was one of those little tabletop, hand crank things, like you’d have in your kitchen at home,”

“Don was not easy to live with and like most couples we had our moments. But I never threatened him and I certainly had nothing to do with his disappearance. When he disappeared, I did everything I could to assist the police.”
