Pixar has released a teaser for their new movie called Elemental. The movie’s synopsis is:
Set in Element City, where fire-, water-, land-, and air residents live together. The story introduces Ember, a tough, quick-witted and fiery young woman, whose friendship with a fun, sappy, go-with-the-flow guy named Wade challenges her beliefs about the world they live in.
Call me a sucker, but Elemental looks like a good old-fashioned Pixar movie with a uniquely charming and original idea.
From the studio that gave us classics like Toy Story, Incredibles, Ratatouille, and Finding Nemo to name but a few, Pixar sadly lost its way. To be fair, that could just be my opinion as my kids have all grown up now so perhaps some of that Pixar magic has been put on hold until this old man gets grandchildren?
Alternatively, is it that other animation studios quickly caught up and Pixar didn’t rise to the challenge of the newcomers?
Regardless of what I think, a long list of unnecessary sequels and lackluster original content such as Soul or Onward hasn’t helped Pixar stay on top. Add to the increasing necessity to get “the message” out, and films like Turning Red and in particular Lightyear have been shunned by parents.
Anyway, Elemental is Pixar’s only release planned for 2023. It’s being helmed by The Good Dinosaur director Peter Sohn and is due to be released on June 16th, 2023.
Pixar has such an amazing back catalog which raised several conversations in Chateaux Eggy Weggs last night as to what is Pixar’s best movie. Having four sons and me, an Alpha as a dad, it was an easy win for The Incredibles, but what’s your favorite Pixar movie?
