The popular fantasy and role-playing game Dungeons And Dragons has something of a checkered history when it comes to the screen. A well regarded 1980’s cartoon still, somehow, remains the high point.

Then New Line decided to have a go in 2000 starring Justin Whalin, Marlon Wayans, Thora Birch and Jeremy Irons. That was a critical and commercial disaster. They were chasing some more of that sweet, sweet Lord Of The Rings lucre and failed badly.

Now, after some mergers and acquisitions, Hasbro and eOne are teaming up with Paramount to bring a new version to the screen. Apparently Chris Pine is up for the lead role. Negotiations are underway.

Game Night helmers Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley are behind this as screenplay writers and directors. They will develop the first draft by Michael Gilio which was about a warrior and his band of mystical creatures as they embark on a dangerous journey to find a mythical treasure.

Previously Baby Driver star Ansel Elgort (gesundheit) was said to be considered for the lead but that appears to have all changed.

The film is currently targeting a May 27th 2022 release.
