One of history’s most famous men, Napoleon Bonaparte, will be played by one of this generations finest actors, Joaquin Phoenix. This will be under the watchful eye of a director who remains prolific even into his 80’s in the form of Ridley Scott. It sounds like one hell of a mix.
Kitbag is set up at 20th Century Studios by Scott Free, Ridley’s production company. The pitch describes it as an original and personal look at Napoleon’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to Emperor of France.
The story will capture all of Napoleon’s famous battles, analytical mind, strategic brilliance and ruthless ambition as viewed through the lens of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife Josephine, the only woman he ever loved.
David Scarpa (All the Money in the World) is writing the screenplay.
Scott is wrapping up The Last Duel in Ireland and will move straight to Italy to start work on Gucci starring Lady Gaga as the murderess Patrizia Reggiani with Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Adam Driver and Jared Leto as co-stars before he moves onto Kitbag.
Ridley, mate, it’s OK to slow down!
