Amber Heard has confirmed she’ll be returning for Aquaman 2 as Mera, although a petition to have her removed has passed one million signatures.

This petition is more backlash on the never-ending drama between Amber Heard and ex-husband Johnny Depp. Depp has problems of his own and was recently asked to step down from his role in the Fantastic Beasts franchise.

This happened hot off the heels of Depp losing his libel lawsuit against a UK tabloid, claiming he’s a “wife beater.” The studio wanted to keep away from any further controversy.

Of course, this has lead to fans demanding that Heard face the same consequences with her role in Aquaman 2, also owned by Warner Bros.

Heard and Depp divorced in 2016 and the ongoing battle between the two has been legendary. Heard has obtained a restraining order against the Depp, accusing him of physically and verbally abusing her, among other allegations. Depp has sued the actress for defamation following a piece she wrote for The Washington Post.

During an interview with EW, Heard said-

“Paid rumors and paid campaigns on social media don’t dictate [casting decisions] because they have no basis in reality.”

I guess we can only wait and see what this petition means and how Warner Bros. will react to it.

Heard first appeared in Justice League in 2017 and then again in 2018’s Aquaman. Aquaman 2 is set to release in 2022.

As far as I’m concerned, Depp and Heard are far from the first two celebrities with major relationship issues that include domestic violence. Not to mention that it is happening to everyday people as well. It’s something that simply shouldn’t be dragged out into the public and people shouldn’t lose their jobs. This is another form of cancel-culture.
