The Blue Meanies Return
It’s been 11 years since Avatar was released, now director James Cameron is actually ready to share the first behind-the-scenes look at Avatar 2.
The official Avatar Twitter account posted a pic showing Sigourney Weaver (Dr. Grace Augustine) and Joel David Moore (Dr. Norm Spellman) alongside producer Jon Landau on the set of the sci-fi sequel.
The caption of the photo reads –
“From the set of the Avatar sequels: Producer Jon Landau, Sigourney Weaver, and Joel David Moore revisited the Site 26 Shack to shoot scenes for the new films. Follow Jon on Instagram at ‘JonPLandau’ for more sneak peeks!”

Avatar 2 takes place some years after the original, the sequels follow Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) and the children they’ve had since the first film. Their lives are thrown into chaos when the R.D.A. corporation returns to the alien planet to finish the work they started in the first film.
Weaver’s Dr. Grace Augustine died in the original and became one with the life-tree at the end of the movie, and the actress has previously said she’s playing a different character in the sequels.
Cameron hoped to release Avatar 2 in 2014, but one film became two and ultimately three, which the director decided to film in one go. That pushed the release date for the first sequel film all the way out to 2021.
As it stands, Avatar 2 is currently slated to hit theaters on December 27th, 2021, with the three sequels to follow in December 2023, December 2025, and December 2027.
