You go to all the effort of putting together a damn good trailer for Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness and pay for it to be launched at the Super Bowl, and all anyone wants to talk about is THAT line and a glimpse at a certain character in that trailer. Speculation is rampant that Patrick Stewart will be reprising his role as Professor Charles Xavier, founder of the X-Men.
A scene in the trailer shows a handcuffed Strange, seemingly escorted by working versions of Tony Stark’s Ultron shield robots, and brought before a tribunal. Figures are seen from a distance as silhouette’s and then one speaks, and we see a glimpse of a recognizable head, and hear a voice that is very much like Patrick Stewart.
In the comics, there was a secret society of Illuminati that Xavier, Strange, Tony Stark, Reed Richards, and Namor The Sub-Mariner are a part of. Namor is expected to appear in Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever. Richards will, of course, feature in Jon Watts’ upcoming Fantastic Four.
Stewart has been asked straight out if it is him, and he had this to say to Comicbook.com when they asked him:
“You know, people have been imitating my voice ever since I came on the stage 60 years ago. So, I can’t be held responsible for that.”
After Andrew Garfield seemingly got quite annoyed with having to deny he was in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and then turned up anyway, no denials actually mean a thing anymore when it comes to Marvel.
We will only know for sure when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is released on May 6th.
