A hidden gem of a series, One Punch Man, looks like it might be coming to the big screen. James Wan is in talks to direct.

Sony will be producing the live action movie based on a script by screenwriters Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. They are known for Venom and Jumanji: The Next Level. This will be Lin’s first directing job after abruptly leaving Fast & Furious 10 recently. Lin had directed four of the F&F series previously.

The webcomic series One Punch Man follows Saitama, an average man, who trains and becomes a super hero who can defeat any enemy with a single punch. The problem is that he becomes bored with his super powers and cannot find anyone who is a match for him.

He continually saves the earth from certain doom, but doesn’t really care about it anymore. He joins the Hero Association, a group that employs super heroes to battle evil, in hope of finding a worthy opponent to fight.

The series is a brilliant character study and very well made. The Manga version has been praised for it’s quirky sense of humour and sendup of most super hero tropes.

One Punch Man first when viral in 2009 and then received a Manga remake. Viz Media published an English version in 2015 and then it became an animated series in the same year. It’s also had a video game on consoles and mobile devices.

No news yet on when One Punch Man will be out in the cinemas.
