We knew that Justified and Deadwood star Timothy Olyphant was to appear in Season 2 of The Mandalorian on Disney+. What we didn’t know was who he would be playing. Now those industrious fellows at Slashfilm think they know. Apparently he will play Cobb Vanth.
Who? Well, you would be right to ask as the answer was buried deep in the in-canon, newly launched EU. Specifically Chuck Wendig’s Aftermath series. As we all know, no real, self-respecting Star Wars fan of a certain age would be caught dead reading that stuff.
That is why we just write out own continuity here at The Last Movie Outpost. That and because we have time on our hands.
Vanth is the self-appointed sheriff of Freetown on Tatooine. He wears a set of Mandalorian armour picked up from Jawas. The Jawas salvaged it from the wreckage of Jabba’s sailboat out at the Sarlaac Pit.
If this follows the canon then Vanth is wearing Boba Fett’s armour. He was, obviously, very present at the Sarlaac Pit on that fateful day. Some may say he was present way beyond that, in pain and suffering.
The source also says they have seen Olyphant filming scenes wearing Boba Fett’s armor. We know Temuera Morrison, who originally played Jango Fett in Attack Of The Clones, had been cast as Boba Fett in the new season. Does Boba Fett come looking for his armour? Or will he just appear as a flashback? Time will tell. Season 2 of The Mandalorian appears to be shaping up nicely. We will see in October.
