After a three-year silence, the fourth motion picture in the latest Star Trek series is officially steaming ahead with Noah Hawley directing and Chris Pine returning.

Star Trek Beyond was a box office disappointment, which brought its own issues with the planned fourth film that was to be directed by S. J. Clarkson. Unfortunately, a pay dispute involving Chris Pine set the film back again, and S. J. Clarkson went on to direct the pilot of the now-cancelled Game Of Thrones prequel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fargo showrunner Noah Hawley is now in negotiations to take on the next movie in the Star Trek Kelvin Timeline sequence, and seems to have convinced Chris Pine to return and –

“take the con”

As of now, the rest of the crew are also expected to return for Hawley’s movie, including Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana. Chekov actor Anton Yelchin died before the release of Star Trek Beyond, and it’s not yet known how the actor’s death will be resolved.

The Hawley project is unrelated to the Quentin Tarantino standalone film, which is still going ahead, and will presumably not involve Chris Pine or other existing cast members.

QT’s Star Trek will be scripted by The Revenant writer Mark L. Smith.
