When the world put itself into lockdown back in 2020 and in-person fan events and Cons were cancelled, DC created the DC FanDome to take their usual Comic-Con style content and fan engagement online. The event highlighted DC Comics and various film, TV, and game adaptations that were either already out, or in the pipeline. It was repeated last year.

Well, it ain’t coming back! In-person events are back. San Diego Comic-Con has returned. New York Comic-Con is a go, and Warner Bros. Discovery are cutting costs and re-working a lot of their DC content with plans still to crystallise. Warner Bros. have announced they are going in-person only, and FanDome has outlived its usefulness now COVID fades in the rear-view mirror:

“With the return of in-person events, Warner Bros. Discovery is excited to be able to engage with our fans live at numerous comic-cons around the world and will not be scheduling DC FanDome for 2022.”

Meanwhile, in other DC news, the cast for Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie à Deux has another notable new joiner. Brendan Gleeson will join Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga in the sequel to 2019’s Joker.

Gleeson

Lady Gaga set to play Harley Quinn in what is rumored to have large musical elements set mostly inside an asylum. You have to give them credit for being different.

Phillips’ original Joker is still the highest grossing R rated movie and earned 11 Academy Award nominations, with two wins. Warner Bros. will release Joker: Folie à Deux in theaters Oct. 4, 2024.
