In 2018, Tom Hardy gave us his Venom. Later this year the sequel is due out, Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Here is the new trailer.
It seems to open up the plot a bit more in this one. I don’t know if it’s just me, but the CG doesn’t look that great. Shriek is in there as well, but not really showing her do much.
The story is:
Tom Hardy returns to the big screen as the lethal protector Venom, one of MARVEL’s greatest and most complex characters. Directed by Andy Serkis, the film also stars Michelle Williams, Naomie Harris and Woody Harrelson, in the role of the villain Cletus Kasady/Carnage.
The two main stars are returning, Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, but this time joined by Woody Harrelson, Stephen Graham, Nimie Harris, Reid Scott and Peggy Lu.
As we know, it’s being directed by Andy Serkis who is no stranger to superhero movies having starred in Age of Ultron and Black Panther. This will be the first time he’s directed a superhero movie, although he has a few other movies under his belt including Breathe, The Ruins of Empires, and Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage is written by Kelly Marcel who wrote the first movie . This time around Tom Hardy also has a credit for the story. Marcel said of Hardy, and how they created the story:
“He doesn’t get a pen and write. We spent months breaking the story together on FaceTime, riffing on ideas, seeing what worked, seeing what didn’t. Then I took everything we spoke about and holed up somewhere for three months quietly, knocking out a script.”
The original Venom turned over about $850 million worldwide, but that was just before the pandemic hit. As we have seen with movies like Jungle Cruise, even the big movies with the big stars aren’t really hitting the numbers again yet.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage is out on 15th Sept 2021.
