The BBC has just released a claustrophobic new trailer for the upcoming submarine-based thriller Vigil which stars Martin Compston.

Vigil will follow Compston’s return to his native Scotland to play a Royal Navy officer called Craig Burke who finds himself caught up in a murder investigation after someone on board his submarine suddenly dies.

Suranne Jones plays DCI Amy Silva while Rose Leslie, from Game Of Thrones, takes on the role of DS Kirsten Longacre, who together lead the investigation into a conspiracy that “that goes to the very heart of Britain’s national security.

The BBC’s synopsis for Vigil reads:

“The mysterious disappearance of a Scottish fishing trawler and a death on-board a Trident nuclear submarine bring the police into conflict with the Navy and British security services. DCI Amy Silva leads an investigation on land and at sea into a conspiracy that threatens the very heart of Britain’s nuclear deterrent.”

Vigil, a six-part series, comes from World Productions (Line Of Duty, Bodyguard) and has been written and created by Bafta-nominated writer Tom Edge (Judy, The Crown, Strike) with episodes by Ed Macdonald (The End Of The F***ing World) and Chandni Lakhani (Dublin Murders).

The series is currently is set to be released in late summer/early autumn 2021.
