Troma’s much-loved, very cult low budget comedy The Toxic Avenger is getting the remake treatement, and Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones, X-Men: Days of Future Past) is coming along for the ride.

Macon Blair is set to direct the updated tale of the 1984 movie. The Toxic Avenger is wrapped in environmental themes and runs against some superhero tropes in the same way Deadpool does. According to the blurb:

“When a struggling everyman is pushed into a vat of toxic waste, he is transformed into a mutant freak who must go from shunned outcast to underdog hero as he races to save his son, his friends and his community from the forces of corruption and greed.”

Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz will serve as producers. The original was so popular that it became a drive-in and late night movie staple that spawned three sequels and a musical. A Marvel comic and a cartoon also followed.
