Queen Latifah takes over from Edward Woodward and Denzel Washington as The Equalizer. She will play Robyn McCall as the ex-CIA agent who is trying to lead a quiet life post retirement, but who cannot resist trying to help people in need who the authorities are unable or unwilling to help.
Before the Denzel Washington movies, in the original TV series Woodward played Robert McCall. A former covert operations officer of an unnamed US government intelligence organization, which was often referred to simply as “The Agency” or “The Company”, who tried to atone for his past by offering, usually free of charge, his services as a troubleshooter, a protector, and an investigator.
People in need found him through a newspaper classified ad:
“Got a problem? Odds against you? Call the Equalizer: 212 555 4200.”
He was a divorcee and his estranged son was played by Johnny Lawrence himself, William Zabka. The theme tune was aces!
The cast of this TV reboot also includes Chris Noth as her old handler William Bishop, Lorraine Toussaint as Viola “Aunt Vi” Marsette, Tory Kittles as Det. Marcus Dante, Adam Goldberg as Harry Keshegian, Liza Lapira as Melody Bayani and Laya DeLeon Hayes as Delilah.
Now a teaser has appeared on the official Twitter channel for the show, ahead of the show debut on 7th February post-Super Bowl.
