After spending an entire season moaning about Batman disappearing, the noted fan of lesbonics Batwoman decided to disappear. In doing so she left something of a hole in Gotham’s crime fighting repertoire. Well thank God for her replacement as Batwoman -Ryan Wilder!

In these post-BLM times, with Cancel Culture stalking our lands, I thought this was stunning casting. When I read the character description I upgraded that opinion to stunning AND brave!

“Ryan Wilder is about to become Batwoman. She’s likable, messy, a little goofy and untamed. She’s also nothing like Kate Kane, the woman who wore the Batsuit before her. With no one in her life to keep her on track, Ryan spent years as a drug-runner, dodging the GCPD and masking her pain with bad habits.

Today Ryan lives in her van with her plant. A girl who would steal milk for an alley cat and could also kill you with her bare hands, Ryan is the most dangerous type of fighter: highly skilled and wildly undisciplined. An out lesbian. Athletic. Raw. Passionate. Fallible. And very much not your stereotypical all-American hero.”

I can only imagine this is some sort of Hollywood statement about trans-rights as we all know the deep level of expertise Hollywood has in all matter pertaining to social issues. Bravo Hollywood for showing us the way!

As they are our anointed leaders on our cultural journey as humanity, I was similarly impressed with their willingness to lean into potential controversy and to allow Ryan Wilder to be portrayed as black. Stunning AND brave AND fearless!

TAKE THAT, flyover America! Nobody is interested in your racist opinions anymore! The CW are just better than you.

Batwoman made oddly specific history in 2019-20 as the first scripted live-action TV series to feature a lesbian superhero as the lead. The production crew stated it was important to openly gay producers Berlanti and Dries that the part went to a member of the LGBTQ community.

In total commitment to craft, Ryan Wilder will go method and be immersed as Javicia Leslie, taking over the role from Ruby Rose.

Batwoman is scheduled to return, stunningly AND bravely, in 2021.
