New Batwoman Javicia Leslie takes on the bat-mantle vacated by Ruby Rose in the CW’s ongoing series.

“Time to be powerful!”

Lee is the first live-action Black Batwoman in the Bat-franchise’s history and plays a character called Ryan Wilder. She takes on the role, and the threads after warning her predecessor’s ally, Luke Fox (Camrus Johnson):

“Don’t kill me, but I made some alterations.”

Ryan is an original character who doesn’t come from any of the Batman comics, and the actress has said that she is the kind of fighter:

“…who would kill you with her bare hands.”

This approach is clearly going to cause some issues with the previous Batwoman’s allies who are all returning from season one. Here is the trailer.

The first season had a lot of fans, but did not chime with many people familiar with the Bat-lore and the world of DC comics. The CW had enough faith in the character to continue with the recasting after Ruby Rose decided to leave the role after just that first season.
