Anchorman Duo To Star In Dark Comedy
Apple has given The Shrink Next Door a straight-to-series order, the new dark comedy reunites Anchorman duo Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd.
The Shrink Next Door is inspired by true events that detail the bizarre relationship between psychiatrist to the stars Dr. Isaac “Ike” Herschkopf (Rudd) and his longtime patient Martin ‘Marty’ Markowitz (Ferrell).
Over the course of their relationship, the charming Ike slowly takes over Marty’s life, moving into Marty’s Hamptons home and taking over his family business. The series explores how a seemingly normal doctor-patient dynamic morphs into an unprecedentedly exploitative relationship filled with manipulation, power grabs, and dysfunction at its finest.
Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum, and Brittney Segal will executive produce the TV adaptation for Gloria Sanchez Productions. Rudd and Pritchett will also serve as executive producers.
The Shrink Next Door, which was based on a popular podcast, is just the latest in true crime podcast-to-TV adaptations.
The series will join the streamer’s slate of upcoming projects, which includes soon-to-premiere limited series Defending Jacob, starring Chris Evans, and animated series Central Park.
The Shrink Next Door will debut globally on Apple TV+, a release date is currently unknown.
