Don’t Breathe and Evil Dead remake director Fede Alvarez is withing weeks of starting shooting on his new Alien project. The standalone feature film set within the world of the xenomorph and Weyland-Yutani has an official start date in February.

Collider reports that a listing on the Film & Television Industry Alliance website gives the production a working title of Alien: Romulus and a start date of February 6th 2023 in Budapest, Hungary.

This is not the Noah Hawley-created Alien series being made for FX. That is still being written and will be Earth-based. It is said to be set around a rival corporation to Weyland-Yutani.

This will be like the Predator prequel / sequel Prey, standalone and landing on Hulu rather than in theatres. It will be on Disney+ outside the US.

With a February start, the cast names should start to land soon. Mare of Easttown actress Cailee Spaeny is so far the only known cast member. Nobody knows where in the Alien timeline this new story will be set.

The studio greenlit the production off the back of a cold pitch by Alvarez that was very impressive. Rodo Sayagues is co-writer and the ever-present Ridley Scott is producer.
