I got all excited when I heard this! Then I heard that Netflix and Ubisoft are teaming up for an animated series adaptation of Splinter Cell and I got less excited. I thought it was going to be live action.

It will, however, apparently be aimed at adults and not kids. So much so that they have pulled in John Wick franchise writer Derek Kolstad. He will be writer and executive producer on the series which will most definitely not be a children’s cartoon. It has already received a two-season, sixteen episode order at the streaming service.

Splinter Cell follows ex-U.S. Navy SEAL Sam Fisher. He is recruited by the NSA and is placed into the Third Echelon division. This is a secret directorate that deals with stealth incursions and strategic black ops. The game series spawned six sequels and for many years Tom Hardy was attached to play Fisher in a live action movie. This news effectively kills that project.

Kolstad recently worked on Falcon and The Winter Soldier for Disney+ and Die Hart on Quibi. We hope this fairs better than Ubisofts last attempt at a game adaption which was Assassin’s Creed. I have seen it, but I can’t remember a damn thing about it.
