Netflix is usually a company that will surprise us with new things, but at the same time, they will dip into the nostalgia bag and re-do something. This time it is the latter and it’s an animated version of Tomb Raider.
The new series will have a new Lara Croft actress, well a new voice anyway, in the form of Hayley Atwell. The actress is known for a lot of movies, but in the past few years, she has been Peggy Carter in the MCU.
This isn’t going to be a new incarnation or a reboot for Lara Croft, as the new series is described as:
“…picking up after the events of the highly successful Tomb Raider video-game reboot trilogy.”
I have no idea what that means. I haven’t played any of the newer Tomb Raider games at all, but I’m guessing it will have guns, ancient artefacts and pyramid shaped boobs.
Lara Croft has been played by a lot of ladies from Shelly Bond to Angelina Jolie to Keeley Hawes to Alicia Vikander. It is good news that Atwell is English and will have that slightly posh tone.
Netflix clearly has a thing for video game adaptions, as other series about Sonic the Hedgehog, Assassin’s Creed, The Cuphead Show and a few other Ubisoft titles re all set to start streaming over the next few years.
Netflix also have a movie version of The Division is in the works as well. Given enough time, someone will announce a movie or series about Pong.
No news on when the new Tomb Raider series will be streaming.
