Netflix had a teen revenge comedy called Insatiable. This show was created by Dexter and E-Ring writer Lauren Gussis. It centred on a character played by Debby Ryan called Patty.
In the show Patty had been bullied, ignored, and underestimated by those around her because of her weight. When she suddenly becomes thin she is out for revenge on those who have mocked her.
It starred Dallas Roberts, Christopher Gorman and Alyssa Milano. However this relatively simple premise was never going to pass muster in the 21st century, was it?
The series was accused of fat-shaming and was subject to an online petition for its cancellation, one that garnered over 200,000 signatures.
While it would take a heart of stone not to at least appreciate the irony of online campaigner Milano having a show she was working on cancelled by the same rabid online pitchfork mobs she frequently marches at the head of, it is hard on the rest of the cast and crew. Hundreds potentially out of work. Bullied out of employment by people proclaiming them as bullies.
Good work mob! You must be very proud?
