Netflix has acquired producers Simon Kinberg and Matt Reeves upcoming action movie Lift which is about an audacious mid-air heist.


Deadline reports that the streamer signed a deal for writer Dan Kunka’s screenplay, winning a bidding war to land the project after it was sent to every studio earlier this week.

The official synopsis for Lift reads –

“A female master thief and her ex-boyfriend who works for the FBI team up to steal $100 million in gold bullion being transported on a 777 passenger flight from London to Zurich.”

As well as Lift, Kunka has been very busy recently developing a pair of Universal project. Space Race and Crime Of The Century with 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg, who previously directed an episode of Black Mirror for Netflix.

Kunka’s only other produced credit so far is the 2009 film 12 Rounds, an action movie that gave wrestler and future F9 actor John Cena the opportunity to gradually transition into a Hollywood career.

Kinberg’s Genre Pictures and Matt Reeves’ 6th & Idaho will produce Lift. Genre’s Audrey Chon and 6th & Idaho’s Adam Kassan are also producing.

Reeves highly-anticipated movie The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson alongside Colin Farrell, Zoë Kravitz, Andy Serkis, John Turturro, Paul Dano, Barry Keoghan and Peter Sarsgaard, among others, is scheduled for release on March 4th, 2022.


Reeves resurfaced last week to announce that the film has wrapped production. The Batman was originally scheduled to be released this year into theaters on October 1st.
