Last year, we reported that Mr & Mrs Smith would be getting a TV series and it would star Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge and they would be starring in the main roles. Pretty woke, right?

Well, not quite woke enough. Waller-Bridge left the project after “creative differences”, so they had to replace Mrs Smith against Glover. They have no cast Maya Erskine, known from Pen15, the ‘hit’ Comedy on Hulu.

Glover has said about his new co-star:

“Yeah. She’s dope. It’s exciting. I really love the show. I’m writing the finale now.”

Erskine co-produced and co-created Pen15 with her co-star Anna Konkle. The pair did win an Emmy nomination for Outstand Writing in a Comedy Series. Erskine can also be seen in the up-and-coming Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

The TV series will be based on Doug Liman’s movie from 2005, originally starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. It was about a couple, both secret assassins, working for rival companies, who are then assigned to kill each other. A good old fashion rom-com.

The series is being co-created by Glover and Francesca Stone, who are both serving as executive producers and showrunners. It will finally air on Amazon Prime Video.

So, they have got rid of the white lady and replaced her with someone more ethnic. Maybe they could add a couple of adopted kids, one from Russia, and one from Ukraine, so they are always fighting. Best stick one in a wheelchair too, tick all the boxes.
