For years Kevin Smith has been threatening Moose Jaws. The third and final part of his True North trilogy seemed a bridge too far, even after Tusk and Yoga Hosers made it to the screen. However now it appears that Lionsgate is going to back him to make his dream a reality.
Fangoria has carried a report that Smith took a Q&A at GalaxyCon a few weeks ago in which he confirmed the horror-comedy is a go.
The long-rumored movie is expected to be exactly what it says on the tin, with Spielberg’s 1975 all-time classic Jaws getting a do-over… but with a moose instead of a shark. What could possibly go wrong? Smith said in the Q&A:
“Moose Jaws is a movie I’ve been threatening to make for a long time, but thanks to the good folks at Lionsgate, it’s actually going to happen”.
We can blame Clerks 3 and the Jay & Silent Bob reboot selling stackloads on home video. They made so much money from Blu-Ray sales that Smith could get anything he wanted greenlit, and he chose Moose Jaws. I swear, it’s not April 1st. This is real. Smith tells it like this:
“I said, ‘I got this movie called Moose Jaws,’ and they were like, ‘What’s Moose Jaws?’ And I was like, ‘Moose Jaws is like Jaws but with a Moose instead of a shark.’ And they said, ‘What’s the budget on that?’ I was like, ‘About three million bucks,’ they’re like, ‘We’ll make four of them.’ So it looks like Moose Jaws is finally gonna happen.”
He’s also got other projects lined up as a result of his new found bankability including sequel Twilight of the Mallrats, yet another Jay and Silent Bob sequel and a Red State follow up.
2023 off to a flier already.
