If Roland Emmerich isn’t blowing stuff up in his movies, he’s ending the planet. Or he’s blowing stuff up while ending the planet. No change for his new movie over at Lionsgate.

Written by Emmerich, Harald Kloser and Spenser Cohen, Moonfall features the moon being knocked from its orbit by a mysterious force and sent on a collision course with Earth.

The future of humanity hangs in the balance as with just days to spare a hastily assembled team has to take on a seemingly impossible mission to venture into space, land on the lunar surface and do something that will save all of life on Earth.

Hmmm. This all seems really familiar.

Armageddon II: Moon Boogaloohumanity.

Well, Armageddon is an awesome slice of Bayhem, and Emmerich knows a thing or two about world ending disasters. You may be forgiven for thinking what could possibly go wrong with the formula?

Oh. That.

Josh Gad has signed on in a major role. He will apparently play KC Houseman, described as:

“…a smart but disorganised genius who is profoundly unfiltered and eccentric but also suddenly one of the most important people on Earth.”

It is expected to begin shooting this autumn for a late 2021 release.
