Moonfall has a full trailer ahead of release but before that…

…Pop quiz, Outposters! What is the most expensive independent movie ever made? An indie film frequently refers to a production made outside the major film studio system, and one that is frequently distributed by an independent entertainment company too.

Well, it depends who you ask. A lot of people say Luc Besson’s Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets at $180 million. Coming up close behind though is Moonfall. This movie had a budget of $140 million. Why independent? It seems after Independence Day: Resurgence struggled, writer, producer, and director Roland Emmerich swore off the studio system. He’s gone full indie for this one, working with Lionsgate and Roadshow instead of a Warner Bros. or a Paramount.

Moonfall

Stargate, Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow, 2012, and now Moonfall. Whether inside or outside the system one thing is for sure. Emmerich really loves to destroy stuff! He is the modern-day version of Irwin Allen and no matter what, his movies always include old school, entertaining destruction.

This time it is no different as a mysterious force moves the Moon from its orbit around Earth. With just weeks before impact, a ragtag team launches an impossible last-ditch mission into space to save our planet from annihilation. Will there be drilling? And Bruce Willis? Here is the Moonfall trailer:

Halle Berry, Stanley Tucci, John Bradley, Patrick Wilson, Kelly Yu, Donald Sutherland, Michael Pena, and Charlie Plummer star in Moonfall. Emmerich co-wrote the story with Harald Kloser and Spenser Cohen.
