All three series have been well received and the viewing figures are decent. Netflix is pleased with the number since there will be a fourth collaboration.
The next series will be an adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s short story The Fall of the House of Usher, first published in 1839. I immediately thought of the Vincent Price version from 1960. However, looking at the IMDb, there have been more than 8 versions of the work.
Flanagan will be writing the new series and directing half of the episodes, with his regular partner, Michael Fimognari, directing the other half. Flanagan tweeted about adapting Poe’s work:
“I’m so excited about this series… it is like nothing else we’ve ever done. More to come very soon!”
Flanagan has a multi-year deal with Netflix and has other projects in mind, that include The Midnight Club and Something is Killing the Children, which is probably not going to be a comedy. It seems like Flanagan is going to be busy for the foreseeable future.
On a personal note, I really like his work. I was dubious about The Haunting of Hill House, but it was one of the best series I’ve seen in a while, really creepy in places. Bly Manor and Midnight Mass were both good but not as good as Hill House. I’m happy to carry on watch more of Flanagan’s work, how about you?
