Yesterday was International Women’s Day, and to celebrate Disney+ launched a special 4-episode documentary series focussing on the female heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe – M Power.

Zoe Saldana is the executive producer of the show. It examines the role of women in the MCU such as Black Widow (Scarlett Johanssen), Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), and Carol Danvers (Brie Larson).

The show uses archive footage, animation, and interviews to cover the background of these characters from their comic book origins to the big screen, and looks at the impact these characters have had on modern fandom.

The episodes are standalone from the MCU and all four are now available on Disney+. Speaking about the show, Saldana said:

“MPower is a tribute to women’s representation and empowerment. We’re enthused to have the involvement of a diverse group of women whose voices and stories will serve as a source of inspiration. Our hope is that this series will ignite meaningful conversations and drive real change towards a more equal and inclusive world.”

The show was first revealed in June 2021 when Marvel Studios announced Super Women of the MCU as an original unscripted Disney+ documentary series showcasing the women who bring the Marvel Cinematic Universe to life, both behind and in front of the camera. Marvel Studios also released a casting call for fans to participate in the series.

On February 16th, 2023 it was officially retitled. Executive Producer Mark Herzog adds:

“We’re excited to help illuminate the myriad, powerful stories of women in the MCU. We sincerely hope that the series will empower girls and women all over the world to be their authentic selves in their lives and in their careers.”

Phase 5 gets a big dose of Girrrrrrrl Power in November when The Marvels is released. Before that, in May, Saldana will return in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3. Meanwhile, we guys have our very own M Power.
