With a budget that went from $20 million to $70 million, or even higher, somebody somewhere is betting big on Zack Snyder’s version of Justice League. Clearly this is going to be a completely different movie to the trainwreck that Joss Whedon let limp onto the screen a few years ago. Will it be any good? Who knows.

For now the speculation is fun as the scope continues to grow. Alongside the news that Jared Leto’s Joker and Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke are returning is the news that another DC hero will make an appearance. Martian Manhunter.

Speaking to The Nerd Queens, Snyder revealed a drawing of Martian Manhunter on his phone. As he shared it he called it:

“…a little tease, it’s pretty low-res and it’s just a drawing…

In the Snyder version of the DCEU the Martian Manhunter, J’onn J’onzz, is disguised as General Swanwick (Harry Lennix) from Man Of Steel and Batman vs Superman: Dawn Of Justice.

In a previously shared storyboard we see that Martian Manhunter was going to talk to Lois Lane in the form of Martha Kent, Superman’s mother. Once ‘Martha’ left and was away from Lois we would see the alien shapeshift into his true form as the Martian Manhunter, then back into General Swanwick.

It is said to be quite a small, but pivotal, role that was left with room to grow in further DCEU movies, before the theatrical cut of Justice League delivered something of a near-fatal blow to the DCEU. The DCEU, against all the odds, seems to be limbering up for something of a rebirth. Time will tell if it is successful second time around.
