Netflix has had a rough few weeks. Predicted subscriber growth didn’t materialize and they lost 200,000 eyes worldwide. With only Stranger Things and Cobra Kai as “must-see” appointment TV on the streamer, it appears they are the one service that people will trash as the cost of living crisis bites and families start to economize.

This has forced Netflix to look, long and hard, at its content roster and realize the woke and broke relationship is as strong as it has ever been. Fine when the money is flowing, a luxury not to be carried when things start to contract.

Markle-Pearl

So the cutting scissors are out. There is a rumor they are looking at some of the Obama-driven content, and they have reportedly dropped Pearl. This was the animated series created by Meghan Markle, wife of Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex.

This is awkward as Prince Harry and Markle set up their Archewell productions banner at Netflix back in 2020. This was the first production off the rank in a series of proposed scripted series, docu-series, documentaries, and children’s programming. According to the blurb:

“Pearl centered on the adventures of a 12-year-old girl who finds inspiration in a variety of influential women throughout history.”

The axe is expected to fall hard in several other areas as Netflix attempts to get its game face back on and go on the attack to recover the stock price. Archewell still the documentary series Heart of Invictus coming, which centers on the games for injured servicemen and women.
